Key Responsibilities
As a Close Protection Officer at the University of Johannesburg, your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional security and close protection services to designated individuals, including senior management and VIPs. Here are the main duties you will undertake:

- Driving and transportation: As part of your role, you will drive and provide close protection to individuals during transit, using advanced driving techniques to ensure safety.
- Risk and threat assessments: Compile assessments for specific events and plan routes, ensuring time optimization and the safety of your charge.
- Tactical surveillance: You will apply surveillance techniques and propose countermeasures where needed.
3. Health and Safety Compliance
- Liaise during emergencies: In high-risk situations, you will act as a point of contact, communicating with relevant authorities such as the Senior Director during emergencies (e.g., fire, bomb threats, hostage situations).
- Evacuation procedures: Oversee emergency evacuations in line with established procedures.
- First aid: You may be required to provide first aid as necessary in your area of responsibility.
4. Physical Fitness
- Maintain fitness: You must remain physically fit through regular training and exercise.
- Combat training: Continuous training in unarmed combat techniques is essential to ensure readiness for any situation.
- Mental stamina: Uphold a high level of physical and mental stamina to perform efficiently in high-pressure situations.
5. Additional Tasks
- Surveillance countermeasures: You may be asked to coordinate technical surveillance countermeasures and vehicle inspection and maintenance.
- Miscellaneous duties: Perform any other tasks as assigned by your superiors.
Minimum Requirements for the Position
The University of Johannesburg is seeking individuals who meet the following qualifications and experience for the Close Protection Officer (P10) position:
Essential Criteria:
- Matric Qualification (NQF 4): A Grade 12 certificate is required.
- Relevant Qualification (NQF 6): A diploma or certification in security services, or 3-5 years of job-related experience.
- Security Training (PSIRA Grade A): Accredited security training and relevant PSIRA Grade A certification are mandatory.
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is a prerequisite.
- Firearm Competency: Applicants must hold firearm competency for business purposes.
Recommendations:
- SASSETA Unit Standards: Knowledge of relevant Unit Standards is beneficial.
- Self-Defence and Martial Arts: Training in self-defence techniques and martial arts is an advantage.
- First Aid Certification: First aid training will be given preference.
