The University of the Free State (UFS) is seeking to fill the position of Cleaner (Post Level 18) within the Housing and Residence Affairs division. This permanent role is based at the Bloemfontein campus in the Free State.     Key Responsibilities:

    The Cleaner will be responsible for ensuring that all assigned accommodation areas are cleaned and sanitized to the highest standards. Some of the primary duties include:

    • Cleaning and sanitizing all areas within the designated accommodation category in line with the university’s current colour-coding system.
    • Properly using cleaning detergents and equipment as per the colour-coding system.
    • Keeping all cleaning equipment in good hygienic condition and reporting any faulty equipment to the Housekeeping Manager.
    • Ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety policies, including the proper use of protective gear.
    • Preparing rooms in residences for conferences, which includes cleaning rooms, making beds, and taking off linen after conferences.
    • Maintaining cleanliness in restrooms and storerooms.
    • Attending staff meetings as directed by the Housekeeping Manager.
    • Ensuring cleanliness in common areas and upholding hygiene standards across all facilities.
    • Potential weekend work, particularly during long weekends and conference events, along with overtime when required.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Grade 10 (NQF level 2) or equivalent.
    • Relevant experience in performing cleaning duties.
    • At least two years’ experience in a colour-coding cleaning system.
    • A Colour Coding Cleaning System Certificate is highly recommended.
