The City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Directorate is currently looking for an Emergency Communicator to join their team. This role is critical in handling emergency calls and ensuring that the correct emergency services are dispatched in a timely manner.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Grade 12
- Experience: 6 months to 1 year of contact or call center experience
- Skills: Computer literacy, understanding of emergency contact center operations and systems, good interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills
- Additional Requirements: No criminal record, ability to work shifts (including night shifts), availability to work on weekends
Key Performance Areas:
- Participate in individual feedback and assessment sessions to improve performance.
- Maintain databases by accurately gathering, capturing, and verifying information.
- Apply specialized knowledge in receiving, evaluating, capturing, and disseminating non-routine emergency and general service communication.
- Create and update incident reports on specialized emergency response applications and systems.

The Urban Waste Management Directorate is seeking a Loss Controller. This position focuses on loss control functions to ensure that losses are prevented, limited, or reduced, and that loss control systems are enhanced.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Grade 12
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in areas related to the Key Performance Areas (KPAs) listed below.
- Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills, computer literacy including SAP proficiency
- Additional Requirements: Valid Code EB driver’s license
Key Performance Areas:
- Conduct loss control functions to prevent or reduce losses and enhance loss control systems within Urban Waste Management.
- Investigate cases of misconduct, dishonesty, theft, fraud, misappropriation of council assets, and misuse or abuse of council resources.
- Monitor compliance with risk management controls and adherence to City of Cape Town policies and procedures.
- Investigate all reported incidents of various natures within Urban Waste Management.
- Ensure security companies comply with site specifics at all Urban Waste Management facilities.
- Conduct compliance assessments following all City of Cape Town internal procedures and policies.
- Collaborate with internal city departments, Urban Waste Management branches, and external service providers to address operational issues related to investigations and compliance matters.
- Provide advice and carry out condemnations of inventory items and consumables at UWM depots/facilities.
