    Key Responsibilities

    The Cashier X2 position comes with a range of important duties and responsibilities, all focused on maintaining efficient financial systems within the municipality. Key performance areas for this position include:

    1. Receiving Money on Behalf of the Municipality: Cashiers will be responsible for handling payments, including cash and electronic transactions, on behalf of the municipality.
    2. Managing Inquiries and Payments: Cashiers will receive and interpret customer queries, ensuring that payments are processed accurately and quickly.
    3. Correct Payment Allocation: Ensuring payments are allocated correctly in the municipality’s financial records.
    4. Balancing Daily Transactions: Cashiers will balance daily financial transactions, including cash and cheque payments, and ensure all receipts are correctly issued.
    5. Maintaining Accurate Financial Records: A key part of the role will involve maintaining clear and accurate records of payments and transactions, assisting with document filing, and ensuring that all relevant information is up to date.
    6. Customer Service Duties: Cashiers will assist with general customer service duties, including issuing receipts, assisting customers with their queries, and providing support when necessary.
    7. Assisting with New Connections: This role also involves handling new customer connections, including the disconnection and reconnection of services as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

    To be considered for the Cashier X2 position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent educational qualification.
    • A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification in Financial Accounting, Cost Management Accounting, or equivalent, with at least NQF Level 5.
    • Proficiency in computer literacy and numerical skills.
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in a similar role is highly advantageous.
    • Knowledge of municipal finance management will be considered an added advantage.

    The ideal candidate should possess strong attention to detail, integrity, honesty, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, they should have the ability to work under pressure, manage time efficiently, and work well within a team. Physical stamina and the ability to manage tasks within set timeframes will also be necessary.
