The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is inviting qualified individuals to apply for two Artisan Plumber positions currently available at their Erasmuskloof branch. The positions fall within the Human Capital Management division under the Facilities Management and Physical Security Department and will report to the Works Inspector: Infrastructure.
These permanent posts are open to both internal and external applicants. Job Purpose
The main objective of this position is to install, inspect, and repair plumbing systems and fixtures to ensure that SITA buildings are maintained in a safe and functional condition. The Artisan Plumber will play a key role in keeping plumbing systems operational, thereby supporting the organisation’s infrastructure and the well-being of its employees.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates will be expected to handle several essential responsibilities as part of their daily duties. These include:
- Maintenance and repair of all plumbing systems and fixtures to ensure optimal functionality
- Ensuring that all plumbing work adheres to occupational health and safety standards
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Works Inspector
- Communicating effectively with supervisors and fellow employees to ensure smooth operations
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for the position, applicants must hold a National Higher Certificate of 1 to 2 years in a relevant discipline or an NQF Level 5 qualification from an accredited institution. Applicants with certified specialised courses relevant to plumbing will also be considered.
In addition to educational qualifications, candidates are required to have at least 2 to 3 years of work experience in plumbing or a closely related field. This experience should include both theoretical knowledge and practical applications related to the trade.
Technical Skills and Competencies
The position requires hands-on knowledge and skills in several key technical areas. These include:
- Accessing confined spaces
- Applying adhesives, sealants, and caulking materials
- Cleaning and maintaining sewer lines
- Installing water and sewage pipes
- Soldering and welding techniques
- Using manual tools and working with plumbing codes and trade standards
Candidates must be physically capable of handling the demands of the job, including working in loud, dirty, or cramped environments. Manual dexterity, hand strength, and the ability to tolerate unpleasant working conditions are essential for success in this role.
