    Purpose of the Artisan Boilermaker Job

    The Artisan Boilermaker will play a crucial role in supporting Sasol’s operations by setting up, operating, or tending welding, soldering, or brazing equipment. These tools are essential for creating and maintaining the company’s core metal products, components, and assemblies, forming the foundation of Sasol’s infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure the effective and safe use of machinery and be part of a team dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the efficiency of the plant’s operations.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    As an Artisan Boilermaker at Sasol, you will be expected to:

    1. Operate and Maintain Equipment:
      • Handle welding, soldering, brazing machines, and robots used in the production process.
      • Ensure that all machinery is in excellent working condition to support plant infrastructure.
    2. Safety Compliance:
      • Adhere to Sasol’s Safety Management Systems such as IMS and MBO.
      • Apply emergency procedures when needed.
      • Conduct hazard identification and participate in task risk assessments to ensure workplace safety.
    3. Team Collaboration:
      • Attend daily meetings to review work assignments and provide feedback on work progress.
      • Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) and risk assessments to enhance safety and productivity.
      • Share knowledge with junior artisans and help develop their skills.
    4. Maintenance and Problem Solving:
      • Use Sasol’s plant maintenance documentation and work management systems effectively.
      • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise in the plant or mine.
      • Provide input during toolbox talks to improve plant safety and stability.
    5. Leadership and Mentorship:
      • Lead by example, encouraging team participation and commitment to Sasol’s goals.
      • Mentor learners and artisans, contributing to the overall growth of the team.
      • Take the lead in team efforts and tasks, while assisting in the creation of work instructions for staff development.
    6. Personal and Professional Growth:
      • Engage in performance appraisals with the group leader and identify areas for personal development.
      • Incorporate personal training needs into a Personal Development Plan (PDP) approved by the group leader.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for the Artisan Boilermaker position at Sasol, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

    • Formal Education:
      • Grade 12 / N3 with Mathematics, Physical Science, and English.
    • Trade Certificates:
      • Boilermaker Trade Certificate is essential.
      • Welding Trade Test Certificate is advantageous.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in plant or mine maintenance.
    • Licenses:
      • A valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License is required.
