Role Objective

The role of an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter at AECI Property Services is designed to provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience. Key Responsibilities:

  • Training and Development:
    • Participate in the formal apprenticeship training plan, ensuring consistent progress towards achieving required competencies.
    • Attend necessary training sessions and assessments at the Shukela Training Centre, which includes 60 days of training per year.
    • Maintain and present a training logbook when requested by the employer or training organization.
  • Practical Duties:
    • Perform maintenance, repairs, and scheduled upkeep on plant equipment such as pumps, centrifuges, steam traps, and steam reticulation systems under the guidance of qualified artisans.
    • Assist in daily maintenance tasks across various AECI Property Services plants, including addressing breakdowns.
    • Work effectively with team members to complete maintenance tasks and achieve objectives.
  • Health, Safety, and Compliance:
    • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures, as well as all workplace instructions, regulations, and safety programs.
    • Proactively identify and address potential safety hazards.
  • Tool Usage:
    • Utilize power tools and hand tools efficiently, following AECI safety standards and codes of practice.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Educational Requirements:
    • Matric/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
    • N3 qualification is essential for applying for the trade test.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Driver’s license is advantageous.
    • Basic understanding of process plant maintenance is beneficial.
    • Ability to obtain health clearance for working in a chemical environment.
    • Previous mechanical experience and familiarity with hand and power tools are advantageous.
