Job Description
As a Chemical Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of laboratory operations within the School of Chemistry. Your duties will include overseeing and implementing safety procedures, maintaining and calibrating equipment and facilities, and managing chemical handling, storage, use, and disposal processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight and implementation of safety procedures.
- Maintenance and calibration of laboratory facilities, equipment, and instruments.
- Accurate record-keeping and file management of safety activities.
- Chemical handling, storage, use, and disposal.
- Ensure compliance with the OHS Act and related regulations.
- Assist in the implementation of ISO standards for safety and quality control.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and other team members to maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management or an equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health & Safety management.
- Experience in a chemical laboratory environment is preferred.
- Additional qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), chemical safety, or quality control are advantageous.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken) and computer literacy, including MS Office and database implementation.
