Key Responsibilities
As an Accounting Clerk at the Department of Water and Sanitation, you will be responsible for:
- Receiving, recording, and monitoring invoices from suppliers using the Invoice Tracking Register.
- Compiling source documents and capturing invoices for sundry and purchase order suppliers on the SAP System, including journals.
- Ensuring payments to suppliers are processed within 30 days.
- Managing Sundry Vendor Master Registration on the SAP System.
- Addressing queries from regional and provincial offices.
Requirements
To be considered for this Accounting Clerk position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Qualification: A Senior/Grade 12 certificate with Accounting or Mathematics.
- Additional Advantage: A National Diploma or Degree in Financial Accounting, Financial Management, or Cost and Management Accounting.
- Experience: Previous experience in financial management will be an added advantage.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of clerical functions and financial practices.
- Ability to capture data, operate computers, and collate financial statistics.
- Understanding of public service financial legislations, procedures, and Treasury Regulations (PFMA, GAAP, GRAP).
- Familiarity with financial operating systems such as SAP, PERSAL, BAS, and LOGIS.
- Basic understanding of reconciliations, procure-to-pay processes, and accruals.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to manage diversity and provide client-oriented service.
- Accountability and ethical conduct are essential.
