Jonathan Ball Publishers, a division of Media24 and one of South Africa’s leading publishers, is offering an exciting Internship at Media24 for a motivated individual eager to gain hands-on experience in the publishing industry.

    This paid 12-month internship provides an opportunity to develop skills in writing, editing, and project management while working with an experienced team of publishing professionals.

    The internship starts in mid-February 2025 and will be based in Cape Town.

    Eligibility

    • Applicants must be South African citizens.
    • Must have completed a tertiary qualification in relevant fields, with a preference for Afrikaans majors.
    • Must be available to work full-time in Cape Town from February 2025 to January 2026 (remote work is not an option).

    Key Responsibilities

    As part of the internship at Media24, you will:

    • Assist publishers with project management of book production.
    • Perform administrative tasks such as formatting manuscripts, taking notes during meetings, and helping compile the publishing catalog.
    • Gain experience in quality checking of audio and e-books after completing training.
    • Review new submissions and write reader’s reports to evaluate their potential.

    This internship will immerse you in real-world publishing projects, allowing you to collaborate with industry experts while learning about the ins and outs of publishing.

    Job Requirements

    To qualify for the internship at Media24, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • A tertiary qualification in publishing, journalism, languages, or translation, with a strong interest in writing and editing.
    • Proficiency in English and Afrikaans (written and verbal communication).
    • Excellent writing, editing, organizational, and administrative skills.
    • A proactive, can-do attitude with a commitment to accuracy under pressure.
    • Interest in book publishing, with a passion for reading.
    • Familiarity with MS Office.
